His application is a drop in replacement for the ScatterView WPF control on the Surface. The new control provides a physics engine so that elements in the control react to forces applied to them both physically and virtually. As you'll see the elements interact with fingers, hands, booklets, poker chips and business cards. The poker chips have unique id codes on the bottom which the Surface cameras can read and identify. So some of the poker chips are seen as magnets and others as dial controls to adjust other force parameters such as direction and strength.

Dave's intention when writing this was (to have fun) make it easier for Surface developers to have more realistic and interactive applications. So we could soon see this new Surface control available to us all :-)
