Capturing WP7 Emulator screens for Marketplace

Gosh we are nearly there! Windows Phone 7 marketplace will soon be open for application submissions. So I thought I should give you a top tip about capturing the screen shots you need for your marketplace application submission.

Basically, with Windows 7’s ‘Windows Snipping Tool’ you can select Windows Snip from the ‘New’ combo button and then hover the mouse over the emulator client window. Because the emulator client rendering window is a separate hWnd, so you get just the bit you need for the marketplace submission :-)

  1. Great tip! I was putting this off due to there not being an easy way to do this until now. Should the emulator be at 100% zoom so that the emulator screen is at the right resolution? I believe the submissions require 480x800 or 800x480, correct?

  2. When IS the Marketplace going to be ready to accept WP7 apps? I looked yesterday and they were still only limited to mobile 6.x apps. :<

  3. My word! I use the snipping tool every day at work but for some reason I've never dropped that "New Snip" menu down before.

  4. Yes - good catch. The emulator should be at 100%

  5. Patience grasshopper...the marketplace will be open early Oct. Take the time to makesure you have optimised your app - is the XAP as small as you can make it. It needs to be <20mb for OTA deployment to a device via cellular network. Could you polish those transitions a bit? What about perf?
