VS 2010 Beta 2: SharePoint gets a proper dev tool!

VS2010 beta 2 has been announced at the SharePoint Conference. Details are available here and if you have an MSDN subscription you can download it now!

Key for me is the availability of the SharePoint project templates. These enable you to build everything from a web part or a workflow, to a Site Definition – all from inside my favourite IDE.

More worked examples coming soon!

The other news is that there are now three versions of VS2010, <quote>:

  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate with MSDN – for team development; Application Lifecycle Management (ALM)
  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Premium with MSDN - for developers building high quality, scalable apps
  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Professional with MSDN – for basic development <who does that? />

AND WITH EACH YOU GET TEAM FOUNDATION SERVER, plus some free hours on Windows Azure.

Now when you put all of that together that is totally awesome value – you get THE dev tool, all the docs and product licenses for testing and building on the MS platform (MSDN), and Team foundation server which gives you the robust ALM solution. Amazing.

When can you get all this goodness. By March 22nd people. But be clever and keep your current MSDN subscription live and take advantage of the ‘Ultimate Offer’ to upgrade to VS 2008 Developer if running below, and then get upgraded to VS2010 Ultimate!! Details as they’re released here.

But there is more! Yes, marketing have come up with a new logo – woooooo
